Out of school… time to start making stuff.

May 4th, 2011

I’ve been starting to take small sessions away from my computer. One of my favorite days last semester was a Saturday where I dropped my car off at the mechanic, bought a pen and paper from Staples (this was a last minute idea, otherwise I’d have brought some) and sequestered myself in Biggby’s for a few hours with a cup of Earl Grey.

I wish that I had a graph from Google Reader showing my rate of subscribing to feeds vs. unsubscribing. In the absence of that, my anecdotal observation is that I’ve been unsubscribing to nearly twice as many feeds as I’ve been subscribing to since the new year. Why? I guess I feel like I’ve been consuming all of this information over the past few years, but not doing anything with it. What’s the point of reading a hundred blogs in Google Reader if I don’t do anything with the ideas?

Lately, I’ve been pushing myself to create more and consume less. Now that I’m out of school, that should at least mean more regular blog posts. I want to try out ideas and test them in small iterations. I’m just beginning down this path, but I plan on cataloging it here for future reference.
